Sir William Ponsonby - the very man - been missing him for years. After all, you
can't fight a war without a general.
This particular fellow fought in the final, and most famous Waterloo - Napoleon's end. Leader of the
glorious but tragic Charge of the Scots Greys who raced to the guns with the cry "Scotland forever!"
Around a thousand lost their lives in a pursuit that went too far.
Ponsonby at their head, an exemplary and courageous leader to some, an English fool to others was
among those who fell.
Model soldier or no, my own pursuit of Ponsonby had gone far enough when I found him via the
Internet - in a hobby shop in Massachusetts, of all places.
When he arrived in the post a few days later I returned him to his regiment and thought it only right to
raise a glass of Edradour to acknowledge my own small triumph.
Edradour
…enjoy life's small victories.
